The Four Corners Recycling Initiative is funded by a Recycling Resources Economic Opportunity Grant from the state of Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, run through the non-profit organization Greater Dolores Action. The grant, which awarded just over $91,000 to Greater Dolores Action, paid for the purchase of recycling roll-off containers and other recycling-related materials for institutional use in Montezuma County.
The purpose of the Four Corners Recycling Initiative is to bring recycling opportunities to federal and local government institutions, schools and private businesses. We currently are offering recycling of mixed paper, corrugated cardboard, and mixed metals to six institutional locations, three of which are also open for public use.
The goals of the Initiative are twofold:
The Initiative has purchased and sited recycling roll-off containers at the Dolores Public Schools, Mancos Public Schools, Ute Mountain Ute Travel Center, Dolores Public Lands Center, Crow Canyon Archaeological Center, and the Montezuma County Landfill. The Initiative is also partnering with the City of Cortez to offer mixed paper recycling at the Cortez Middle School and Montezuma-Cortez High School.
